What Exactly Is the Root Canal Treatment?

Root canal treatment is an endodontic practice which is performed when the blood or tooth pulp is infected through decay or any injury. In early stages of infection, you may not recognise and feel the pain but the infection soon starts to show its visible effects. Tooth may darken in colour which indicates that your tooth has come to death and you critically need a root canal treatment.

The infection from the infected tooth pulp spreads through root canal system of your teeth which ultimately reaches an abscess. Abscess causes inflammation with pus collected inside it. All this leads to swelling of tissues present around teeth. Thus, when you feel ache or tenderness of tooth as a result of infection, the very first thing you should do is visit your dentist and fix an appointment for root canal treatment. If this is not done at its earliest, it can reach the worst stage of infection and you might have to remove that tooth.

Most of people are afraid of pain during the root canal treatment. It pains but a little more than that during an ordinary tooth filling. After the treatment, you may come across some tenderness but it gradually gets less over time.

However, make sure you take proper care of your teeth after getting the root canal treatment done. Follow brushing your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and try cutting down sugary foods such as drinks to their minimum. Keep your regular dental visits on.

Dental Advice for New Parents

Do you know that your new baby’s teeth have actually started to form in the jawbone even before birth? Yes, it is the fact and you must look after your new baby's dental health right from the baby's birth.

You would just brush off your kid's dental care, if you have to deal with a squirmy or uncooperative tot; but there are a few reasons that make it a top priority to take care of a new born dental wellbeing. Research shows that poor dental health can become a major reason for life-threatening diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, dementia, cancer, and some other. Such problems can start even at early ages, if dental health is not taken care of in childhood.

Usually, a baby’s first baby teeth or primary teeth start erupting at about six months of age but in extreme cases, this can occur as early as baby's birth or as late as baby's first birthday! Teething of babies often results in many sleepless nights for their parents and thus, most of parents are well aware of this important milestone in development of their babies.

Even before your baby's teeth appear in mouth, it is advisable to wipe their gums gently with a moistened soft cloth once a day. However, once the primary teeth start appearing in mouth, you can also start using a toothbrush that is specially designed for babies. Do not forget to massage baby's teeth and gums gently with plain water and toothbrush till the baby becomes 18 months old. After 18 months of age, it's advisable to use mild toothpaste as per the dentist's advice. Make sure you brush your baby's teeth once a day, after the last feed.

Once you start feeding your baby with bottled milk, the most important thing to remember is to never let your baby sleep with a mouthful of milk, with a bottle in mouth when the baby falls asleep. This leads to the milk bottle syndrome and causes childhood cavities and tooth decay.

According to Australian Dental Association, the very first dental visit of a baby should be right at the age of one year.

Tooth Cavities? Help Your Child Prevent Them!

Children’s dental health is often a daunting issue for all parents. Tooth decay and cavities are the most common problems amongst all others. Children are prone to these two issues even at very early age. This calls for a visit to dentist’s office and this is what children hate! Parents look after the oral health of their kids as per their knowledge but sometimes, it becomes difficult to restrict kids from eating their favourite foods and in turn, to prevent tooth decay and cavities at the end.
Advances in pediatric dentistry have introduced many breakthroughs. There are a number of dental procedures that are especially designed for children. If you are worried about your child's oral health and wish to help the kid prevent teeth cavities, you can follow these quick tips regularly:

  •   Tell your child that a toothbrush never reaches their back teeth and flossing back teeth is very important while brushing teeth regularly
  • ü  Do not forget to replace your child's toothbrush after every three months; this contributes to best results
  • ü  Strictly forbid your kid from eating or drinking anything one hour before going to bed
  • ü  Tell the child that brushing and flossing teeth both in morning and before they go to bed is a good habit and keeps them away from germs
  •  ü  If your kids love chewing gums, then get some sugar-free gums instead of usual ones or lollies; this helps prevent tooth decay and take care of the areas of early decay
  • ü  Try to minimise the snacking between two meals; reduce having juices, sweets, dried fruits, in short anything that contains sugars
  • ü  Feed your child different types of dairy products; they are much beneficial
  • ü  Use children special toothpaste or a fluoride containing one as per the dentist's advice. Fluorides strengthen teeth which is necessary in growing age of children
  • ü  Make sure to take your child for a general dental visit every six
